Alertra

Alertra is a real-time disaster alert platform designed to give you quicker, more local warnings than broad, county-level messages. It watches multiple hazard types — earthquakes, wildfires, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes and tsunamis — and aims to push notifications within 60 seconds of a detection.

The service pulls raw feeds directly from sources such as USGS, NOAA, NASA FIRMS and the National Hurricane Center to avoid intermediary delays. Instead of alerting whole counties, Alertra uses polygon intersection logic to target specific ZIP codes, which cuts down on irrelevant or noisy notifications. Coverage includes more than 30,000 US ZIP codes.

No account is required to start, and there’s a live city threat board for watching risks across several locations. It’s a practical option if you live in an area prone to natural hazards and want more focused, timely alerts.
